Dev Tools Crashes

Hi, back with yet another issue. I have no idea what has happened, I opened up dev tools and started work on my pvp and it just crashed before it even loaded the map up fully. It doesn't do this for any other maps, its just this one and it was working fine yesterday. I have a backup but it is from quite a while ago and I'd prefer to not have to redo all my recent work over again. If anyone has ever experiences crashes like this, any idea why its caused and how I can fix it?

Sorry to hear about this, is there anymore information that you can give us?

  • Did it give you an error message?
  • What phase of loading did it crash in? i.e. The Loading bar usually shows what it is loading while it loads up the map. Finding out what it was loading at the time could help us identify the problem.
  • What did you work on in the map yesterday?

Hopefully we can get you up and building as soon as possible!

It goes through the whole loading bar at the beginning, e.g loading DW/speechEN/Data up to initializing game script (i think) then the white background of the dev tools comes up and instantly it crashes on that white background.

 

The only error messages I am getting is "Dying light developer tools has stopped working" from windows and in the actual dev tools window it just says CromED (not responding) in the top left corner.

 

Yesterday, I didn't do that much, just creating the spawn room for the map. I placed down buttons to select single player or multiplayer, put them into the quest, added in custom models (text saying single player or multiplayer) and thats about it

--Does the program generate a crash log? Look in your "...Dying Light\DevTools\workshop\"Project That's Crashing"\out\logs" and see if there are any current crash logs (the logs are time/date stamped; "crash_20160112_214015823. log" = crash_2016y-01m-12d_21h:40m:15s.823) Open the *.log file in Notepad++ and scan for any obvious errors prior to crash. If nothing pops-out at'cha, you can always post the log here in a code window and let the community try to debug or send it to a mod, to forward to a techland dev. Choice is yours, dude...

 

...but don't panic. If it can be broke by us; it can be fixed by us as well!

I found the crash logs, and I've had a look through but i'm honestly not sure what i'm looking for, nothing has popped out at me so far so ill continue looking but i'll put it up here as well so you can see if you find anything

This is a total experiment, but maybe try disabling any virus scanners (blocking creation/trasnfer of files) and running DevTools with Administer Privileges enabled (bypass any M$ access/creation blocks). If it works fine after, you might need to add some exceptions to your virus-scanner and M$ settings.

Otherwise... some files have been moved and we need to restore their position or re-define them in a *.scr file?

Hey LC,

 

What PiZle_ said, and also I'd recommend verifying the integrity of game caches for both Dying Light and The Dev Tools, I see above that whole bunch of .dds files are failing to load with a "File not Found" < Possibly indicating a corrupt set of files somewhere.

To Verify Cache:

From your Steam Library, to the right of where you search it should say "GAMES", click that and select "TOOLS". Find Dying Light Dev Tools and right-click it and select "properties". A properties window will open and from there select the "Local Files" tab and you'll see a "Verify Integrity of Tool Cache" button. Click it and let Steam scan and fix any missing files. Do the same for the Dying Light game and let us know if any files are re-acquired.
