[Night Hunters] Somewhat-Useful Strategy For Increasing Gp/tackle Chain Effectiveness

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just wanted to share a simple strategy for those of you who are still leveling up your Hunters via Mutations.

Overall, I've found it's actually slightly more effective to simply avoid leveling up your Ground Pound to the point where it has increased distance. By keeping the range short, you can still Ground Pound Humans away from you, but you keep them at an optimal distance to follow your Ground Pound up with a Tackle.

I'l post a video when I can, but it's overall effective, and the timing makes it difficult for Humans to Dodge out of the way in response, as they're still landing from the Ground Pound recoil.

The distance is also beneficial for top-of-building encounters, as you don't want to Ground Pound Humans off of buildings - they can still respond and negate their damage (via the Roll command) as if they weren't under the effects of recoil. Tackle, on the other hand, does not afford them that luxury, and following up a short-range Ground Pound with a Tackle off a building has resulted in death 100% of the times I've tested it so far. No matter how much it's upgraded, Ground Pound still does full damage, and the GP damage + Tackle damage + fall damage (when it works) has yet to not finish a Survivor off.

The strategy obviously accels in 1 Vs. 1, but it offers assistance in higher numbers as well as an ability to safely Tackle a Human out of the picture (always upgrade your Tackle to max range), allowing you to deal with the other Humans or escape with minimal loss of effectiveness Vs. just Ground Pounding everyone around you 20 feet back. As previously mentioned, this works exceptionally well on buildings, as you can very easily chain into a Tackle off a Ground Pound that might normally knock a person off a building for 0 fall damage, resulting in a high chance of netting the kill and less players bothering you at the same time.

Not upgrading doesn't negatively affect your ability to Ground Pound Flares or the distance at which your Ground Pound hits Human players in your proximity - it only keeps them closer after they do it and allows for quick chaining.

Thoughts? Questions? Feel free to comment/post videos if it's not working as effectively for you as it is on my end - I got pretty lazy with Mutations and could only do this because my Hunter wasn't full on skills yet for a long time.

As far as I've tested, it's pretty straight-forward. I can't comment specifically on angles (might not work on an incline, as they could possibly recover faster?), but the distance never seemed to matter during the few matches I took to test it as long as I hit the sprint immediately upon recovering from the Ground Pound animation.

Tackle actually shows up really quickly, and it was in fairly straight areas, like roads. Even when they hit and bounced off cars it still worked, but the bounce might actually help.

I've been trying it for a while and only recently started actively "testing" it, so I'll get back with a video.

I've already upgraded my GP, but not my tackle.  I'm on my last mutation.

I'm not much of a tackle person as it seems survivors can so trivially avoid it, so it's the last to upgrade.  However, from my attempts at tackling survivor grappling up to a roof has brought me some successes and I've started attempting it on the ground.  My tackle it is not upgraded.  The other day I was able to successfully chain multiple tackles into a kill a couple of times.  It seems if you are able to get the first tackle and he's not right up against a barrier, i.e. goes at least a short distance, you can get the next tackle.  Kind of like the survivor Drop Kick chain, just not with the crazy hit box magnetism.  He usually dodged the tackle, but when distracted I could get it.  I could only find the one in the videos and it ended up with a spike kill, so I don't know how many tackles it takes to kill a human.

I'm going to try the GP/tackle combo, though!  Even though I'm already upgraded.

Been trying this out and it works decent even if you've upgraded the GP.  I've been getting good kills in Old Town with a GP then tackle--it sends them FLYING!  Good fun!

Do sometimes have to follow up, though.  A quick pounce or GP does the trick.

I thought I saw this mentioned somewhere here before but I never thought there was enough time to connect the tackle. Does this need to be at any certain angle/surface/incline?

Yea jcks its illblade101 here remember I came up with this tactic like along time ago, I never posted it. Now some one came up with the same idea and posted. It's crazy how people can think of the same things to get around problems.

This forum might be old, but apparently humans can still press the roll button even in tackle form to dodge fall damage from a certain height, however it doesn't do the animation they just take no damage and get up.

There's a fix coming for that too... Actually, I thought it was already out there but I guess not.  It will be in the update ;)

I'll add it to the list

Yeah, I'm not getting kills much anymore even trying the GP spam.  It just doesn't work as players seem to have gotten used to it.  I was even taunted today.  (We traded places and he showed some new tactics, though, which is nice.)  Straight up running at a player and trying to tackle is futile.  I rarely get a connection.  Same with GPs.  Only rarely can I chain GPs and that is only if I can get then hemmed up in a corner so they can't dodge.

Players have simply gotten savvy to the NH's limited repertoire.
