Be The Zombie Mode Dead (Xbox1)

Thread: Post your Btz Matches! Page 3 "I don't use spit spam to gain an unfair advantage, I use it to level the playing field. That to me isn't taking the low road at all it's actually making the game playable against people who can't play a single match fairly." ^This is in response to the 2 survivors who weren't doing anything more than flare spam and one shots on nests. Something that anyone was capable of pre-patch by means of natural progression through the game. Here you are insinuating that the humans were playing "cheap." Let's not turn this into an argument of semantics. "Cheap" is exactly what you meant. Got some footage tonight of me practicing as the human and trying to learn the new ins and outs of the patch. I might use that as background to respond to your list.

@jcks You took about half of what I've said choosing not to focus on any of the constructive points that I put forth to back up my reasoning**. You even quoted me and then proceeded to falsely represent what I said. Example: Me "Unfortunately there are people here who view simply playing as a survivor as "cheap" or "cheating." I have seen videos here of hunters resorting to infinite spit against humans who weren't even playing unfairly." You "Thanks for speaking the minds of every night hunter player in the community." In no way, shape, or form of basic English grammar does the phrase "there are" represent an entire community. Minor annoyance but I couldn't let this one slide even for a night. The rest (and important parts) of my response will come in video form because I fear more text will only cause further confusion and increase the probability of even more cafeteria style picking and choosing of what has been said here. **please read posts preceding what you quoted

Jcks, you spread so much misinformation in one thread that a developer had to come in and correct you. That's a great idea. Having exclusive rewards could absolutely attract more players. I still would like to see this mode move towards a lobby based matchmaking system rather than the invasion setup.

Unfortunately there are people here who view simply playing as a survivor as "cheap" or "cheating." I have seen videos here of hunters resorting to infinite spit against humans who weren't even playing unfairly. But at least when you win as a human now, you know that you're an incredibly skilled player. One of the reasons I will be playing primarily as a human from now on. There just isn't enough challenge as a hunter anymore.

@purrington I don't disagree with you. I do agree that the mode is more balanced (a little too much in favor of the hunter), but at what cost? As you ended that post: "humans control availability." So by nature, the game should be easier (but not too forgiving) as a human in order to facilitate the overall health of the community. We NEED more humans to be playing than hunters unless you want to spend all your time waiting for searches that inevitably fail.

Well you sure don't have to work to win as a hunter anymore. Dying used to guarantee a nest kill. Now there is no penalty for death. They should have added a costume for the humans: covered in chocolate syrup with a cherry on their heads. It's funny that people were complaining that the hunter was not accessible to newcomers and casuals, but now the humans are in that same position. It takes a highly skilled group of humans to succeed in this mode now with almost no room for error. And if you aren't an absolute savant, you have no chance in a 1v1. Yet, I see few people coming to the humans defense. All I see are people expecting humans to implement tactics reserved exclusively to highly skilled players. The same way I was asking hunters to employ smarter, more skillful tactics as a hunter. If these additions stay in place, I guarantee you that there won't be enough humans to go around and this mode will die. We want humans to feel a little more comfortable with the mode so the servers don't get flooded with hunters and only a handful of humans.

I'm also having trouble joing matches. And when I finally do, it's a 1v1 against a noob. I think it's a combination of humans getting frustrated and turning invasions off, and also the fact that matches take three times longer than they did pre-patch. So assuming I'm correct on this, there is 1/3 the opportunity to join a match. Less players + longer matches = less matches to join

    Developer Feedback

I like the tips that you have given to human players, but Bananagoo (ha) is right. Techland has tipped the scales too far in the hunter's favor. The sense of urgency that came with being the hunter is completely gone now. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but now each match can take anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes to complete (yes, matches can end faster against less skilled opponents). That's just ridiculous. We need to reach a better middle ground here. I say keep the current hit points on the nest, but reduce the hit points on the zombie body guards. As I was testing the new patch as a human, this was far and away the most blatantly excessive addition to the mode. Sure you can tackle and curb stomp, but there are so many around the nests that this isn't all that effective as you need some momentum to perform the attack. You also said the camouflage takedowns work well as an alternative. This was only working on the walkers for me. Runners were seeing past my disguise and slapping me around in groups of 3 to 4 after a friend and I had already cleared the area and began wailing on the nest. It's possible that this could be a glitch as I did run into a couple last night, most notably a VOLATILE showing up at a nest during an invasion. As far as throwing your weapons goes, I never actually thought to do this. How effective is it against the nest bodyguards? So, in my opinion, I really think that the nest bodyguards (specifically the runners) should have half as much health or maybe only show up when tagged with a horde spit.

    Upcoming Patch

Can't even begin to tell you how jealous I am. Nothing but 1v1s against noobs on xbone right now...

    First Experience After Patch 1.5

I have a strange problem now. I can no longer set my game set the ability for zombies to invade my game. Tried to do this both from the pause menu and from the title screen. On the pause screen I don't have the option anywhere. On the title screen I can set the online options but when I start the game, it is still set to single player only with no option to change it.

    Developer Feedback

I played as a human last night to see what had changed on that side. Jcks is right. The skill ceiling has risen dramatically. Sorry for doubting you, jcks. But I feared the zombie for a different reason. When you get to a nest, there are zombies lingering there that take a ridiculous amount of hits to kill. So while you're busy dealing with zombies who seem invincible and are slapping you around, the hunter basically has a meal served on a golden platter. I'm trying to find solutions for dealing with these zombies. So far flares seem to distract them, or at least keep them back long enough to heal yourself and get a location on the hunter. Humans are going to have to play with rock solid teamwork now and a plan for every situation. Also, for some reason my spits seem like they are taking a long time to recharge. I find myself literally sitting still and waiting for what seems like 60 or seconds or more.

Did they increase the cool down time on the hunter's spits? Edit: Nevermind. I see what's going on. The hunter's energy takes longer to recharge, thus increasing the time it takes to recharge skills if hit by UV Light. Edit 2: Nope nevermind. No idea what the hell is going on.

    Upcoming Patch

I wouldn't say the skill ceiling has risen DRASTICALLY. But yes, hopefully people don't quit playing just because they can't one shot hunters anymore. Also agree 100% that this mode should be standalone. It should definitely be lobby based so you can wait for full 4v1 games before you start.

Well I'm glad you're happy with the update. The response seems very positive in general outside of some recurring matchmaking issues. I'm hoping the community picks back up. I'm tired of playing 1v1's against humans that don't know how to play. Also, am I crazy or was there a rumor going around about having server browsers for consoles?
