  1. "IGN, Ima let you finish, but Dying Light and Hellraid are the best games of all time! Best games of all time!" -Kanye West Dying Light was in the running for IGN's People's Choice Award for 2014, and Hellraid should have been in the running too! Unfortunately, Destiny won. But ultimately, it's not who wins the award that is important, but who deserves to win the award, and that is you Techland. Dead Island and Riptide are great, and I can tell you guys have pushed everything to a higher level on the new games. Here is a link to the IGN article about the Award if you are interested: http://ca.ign.com/articles/2014/08/18/gamescom-2014-the-winner-of-the-ign-peoples-choice-award-2014-is
  2. I just read this amazing article about the history of Techland, some of the people who work there, their development of Dead Island and conflict with Deep Silver, and the design of Dying Light. http://www.polygon.com/features/2014/7/16/5825146/dead-island-dying-light I pasted this quote from the article. I've played Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide for about 200 hours each (400 hours total). I think that's a lot of time, but they are my favorite games (accompanied by Fallout). "We get lots of letters from people who are waiting for Dying Light because they're fans of Dead Islandand still playing it," he says. "There are people still playing Dead Island, a game from 2011. It's a great achievement for us, that people have played 200 hours in Dead Island. It's unbelievable, even for us, that we could create something like a game that you could play that many times. It's a great achievement for us. We're really happy." What was most interesting to me about the article is that Techland had a lot more work and ideas they wanted to implement into Dead Island before it was released (including swimming!), but couldn't complete them due to publisher pressures. Also interesting was Maciej Binkowski's story about his time as a stuntman and his near-death jump. If anyone from Techland ends up reading this thread, I continue to have only one important request for you. Please, allow us to make female characters in Hellraid. Anything else I want to see in the either games is irrelevant compared to this one matter. And I ask you as someone who sees Hellraid and Dying Light as my dream games. You guys develop the games, and so they are your dream games, but remember they are also the dreams of many fans. I've planned to make to make a thorough argument for this request in the Hellraid forum, but I haven't done so after planning to do it for weeks. I feel that in some ways the request is futile as you guys have heard the request already, but more importantly, you guys already seem to have left the idea of female characters to remain as a mere logical possibility rather than a real possibility. Female character creation would require (1) reworking the story-line and (2) work for design and voice acting. In response, to (1) you guys are creative enough to handle this and (2) the amount of time put into design for the female character pays off in ways that are greater than spending the same amount of time in designing more weapons, environment pieces, etc. Thank you. PS: This article includes conversations with some members of Techland.
  3. I was just visiting http://dyinglightgame.com/ today, and on that page under "Features" it says this: Choose Your Play Style - Dying Light features four playable characters that can be fully customized and upgraded to match any play style. It has already been stated by members of Techland on the forum that this is no longer true, that there is only one playable character now. So, (1) The website should reflect the update and (2) Any thoughts about this reduction of character choices? I believe they stated they made a single protagonist for the Dying Light game in order to make a stronger story. One point I'd like to make is that the four characters in Dead Island created at least four play-throughs for me, as I wanted to play them all. The single-character game could work though too, because I believe Techland's approach now is to make all abilities available and let the player build their character rather than having 4 distinct characters who are pre-built and restricted in their skills. We can also see replacing 4 characters for 1 in Hellraid, as the original 4 classes have been abandoned for a classless system, with a story built around a single protagonist.
  4. Let's continue this conversation from the Dying Light Facebook page. (https://www.facebook.com/DyingLightGame) Dying Light team asks: So we have a few questions for you. 1- What about Dying Light grabbed your attention? 2- What's the first thing you'll do when you get the game? Let us know - we love hearing from you. This forum thread can allow us to develop our thoughts more, and it might also reach some people who have not seen this post. What's your story?
  5. The Nemesis system from the Shadow of Mordor game was heralded by Destructoid as "the true beginning of this generation." Nic Rowen, author of the article, continues "Thanks to its Nemesis system, Shadow of Mordor is the first game I've played that really feels like it's pushing into what these new consoles are capable of and where games could be going in the near future, and that has me EXCITED." Link to article: http://www.destructoid.com/shadow-of-mordor-s-nemesis-system-signals-the-true-beginning-of-this-generation-282160.phtml If you are unfamiliar with this Nemesis system, Shadow of Mordor is an open world game that dynamically creates elite enemies who have names, identities, strengths, weaknesses personalities and voice-acting. (The linked article provides plenty of information and a living example of the system.) These enemies change through encounters, they can gain fears and grow in power. Not only are these elite enemies different on every playthrough, but the game constantly generates new unique enemies as you play. You can learn an enemies name, watch them from afar, kill them early or save their defeat for another day. Hellraid has already planned to have a variety in enemies of the same type (skeletons with various weapons, various armors). So, Hellraid has planned to create interest with some dynamic elements, but not at the same degree. Techland devs, have you experienced the Shadow of Mordor Nemesis system? Any preliminary thoughts? Are there any elements from the Nemesis system that could be used as an inspiration for Hellraid? (EDIT: I believe Dying Light could find inspiration from this system too. But it is too late for that now, seeing as Dying Light is due out soon. We can recall that in Dead Island: Riptide, we saw a number of named enemies with biographies, these super zombies were found in the side rooms/dungeons, and you could read the bios in the pause menu. I still love that game. )

What Can Hellraid Learn From The Nemesis System From "shadow Of Mordor"

Korrupt, you seem to require clarification on two fronts. [1] you may not be up to date, but the game is far from done. There is a link in this Hellraid forum that they have much bigger plans for the game. And [2] you seem to fail to understand what it means to learn from some second system versus copying a system. The original post asks what Hellraid can learn from it, not what it can copy from it. If you want to contribute, you'll have to bring a basic comprehension of what's going on. Go ahead and educate yourself, and come back with a thought-out idea.
  7. Dear Techland forum devs and managers, Would consider having a Question of the Week feature? You could have one in the Hellraid section and one in the Dying Light section. It could be asked every Monday, and every Thursday or Friday you could come back and do a short response or summary of the ideas. Here's how it might work: The Hellraid questions could be just questions of interest like "what would be the most terrifying monster you could meet in a dungeon?" or "what sort of interesting building would be special to find in an outdoor location?" Or you could have a question regarding game development, such as "What provides the most replay value in an action RPG for you?" The Dying Light questions could be interest questions as well. It's too late in the development to add new features, but you could have interest questions about what we are looking forward to, also, post-launch, you could have questions about how we are playing your game. You could even get DLC ideas. I came up with this idea because I think it's really great to have this official Techland forum, I'm passionate about Dead Island and these 2 games, and I think these would be a good activity to continue the life of this forum. Ideas? (Unrelated note: please add DLCs for both games, I'll buy every thing you offer.)

What About Dying Light Grabbed Your Attention? (Conversation From Facebook)

1-As a Dead Island lover, I've kept up with any Dead Island and Techland news for a long time. Dying Light has my 3 favorite elements: zombies, open world, and rpg. I must admit though that all the advertising for Dying Light regarding [a] "be the zombie" mode and competitive co-op activities such as get-to-location-x-first for a bonus have zero appeal for me. I play solo 90% of the time, and when I do co-op, I have no interest in any competitive elements whatsoever. I would have been more interested to see the Dying Light devs talk about the various maps, any new elements of the open world, the swimming. (I recall Maciej Binkowski mentioning that Dying Light has two main maps and each could contain the size of Dead Island, plus there are a few smaller areas. Also, I saw some underwater swimming in one video.) [citations not included, but I could try to locate them upon request] 2-First thing? Man, I just want to explore a little bit first. See how my weapon swings, try the kick and the slide kick, throw a zombie against a spike fence. Then I want to locate a chest that holds a weapon, go inside those gorgeous indoor locations that we've seen in demos. I'll probably finish the first quest soon, and then play in the sandbox for around an hour before I go to the next NPC for a mission. When I played Dead Island, I played Xian first, and during that time, I knew I had 3 more characters to try after. Dying Light doesn't have that, and while that is a limitation, I can already see Dying Light has a ton to offer. PS: If there are any dynamic events, I'll be looking for those right away. Dynamic events such as the random occurrence of people who need saving, or human enemies. Dynamic events are the fresh lifeblood of an open world, and those will be essential to future open world next-gen games. (See my thread in the Hellraid Forum "What can Hellraid learn from the Nemesis System from "Shadow of Mordor"?)

    Dear Hellraid Fans

Michal & Techland, This is very good and exciting news. I was excited for this game, but now it's on a whole new level. I know Dying Light can occupy all my game time, and will certainly keep me busy until Hellraid is released (I'll be playing Dying Light for years, just like I'll be playing Dead Island: Riptide later today ). So, I can be patient while I'm having fun. And, I 100% support your removal of early access. I won't go into why I don't support early access because I don't want to spur a debate. Besides, you guys already know what you are doing. Any and all extra resources you want to put in the game are very welcome. Let's add a village for players to reside and trade in, female characters, and so much more. Techland's future is so bright, they gotta wear shades.
  10. Michal Napora, community extraordinaire, spoke about Dying Light and his positive experience with the Techland community at BGS 2014! (BGS stands for Brasil Game Show. Video released to public Oct 11, 2014.) This was in Brasil, and he spoke to the beautiful interviewer Mariana Ayres. The interview also features subtitles in Brasilian Portuguese (I think). Here is the link to the video: Michal is full of energy and a lot of fun. Thanks for being part of the community, and thanks to the other forum managers who continue to dialogue with us. At 4:00 in the video he talks about his experience engaging with people about Techland games. At 4:29 Mariana asks "what would you have to say to people who think this is just another zombie game?" (Mariana is excited about Dying Light, she just wants to know how Techland might respond to critics) and Michal nails it with "aww man this not just another zombie game [...] check out the parkour, check out the movement, you'll know this is not just another zombie game." Truth, spoken like a boss. The video was fun to watch. Michal, if you see this, nice work. EDIT: he also says near the end "I love Brasil, I love you guys". Just a lot of positivity. (PS. Michal spells his name 'Michal' on this forum but in the interview his name is spelt 'Michael' which I think must be a mistake.)

Michal, good to see you on the forums. If you watch the video, I think you'll find it went really well (and your voice sounded good too).

Hellraiders! A Demon To Name Awaits You!

I'll provide two lists of names, one list will be just "proper names" and the second will be names that mean something. I'll highlight my favorite at the beginning of each list. 1. Names that are just sounds (Proper names) Gobliss (the more sinister cousin of a Goblin), Durgan, Tweelik, Sky-Divan. 2. Names with meaning Gloom, Bone Collector or Bone Harvester, Nighthunter, Shade, Moon Reaper. I Like Iberaider's mention of Raven and birds, but I couldn't come up with any additional ideas along that line. If you (Techland) can come up with one, that'd be great. By the way, I like the character image.

Remembering Dead Island Theme Song & Trailer

Sometimes I still listen to the Dead Island Theme song, or watch the trailer again. I remember I loved the song and trailer before Dead Island was released. The song is available on Youtube in so many ways: as live recordings by musicians, in 2 hour extended versions, the trailer can be seen in reverse or regular order, and the song was even used in a Dead Island 2 trailer (replacing the regular Dead Island 2 trailer song). I remember watching the trailer for the first time and thinking it was so tragic. Michal Napora and Techland, have you used the composer for this song again for Dying Light or Hellraid? Thanks. I'll include a link to the Dead Island trailer in beginning-to-end order (chronological). The other versions are available by searching Youtube. EDIT: I'll also add a version with real actors! I'd never seen it until today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrEwCWV8W4Q

    Our Team Needs Your Help

The skeleton thinks "When your friends say 'he doesn't have an axe, he can't fight', don't believe them, ever!" Haha. I don't know. This is a hard one. Regarding the moustache one you had suggested, the skeleton could think "All I said was 'I moustache you a question' and he pulls out an axe!!" (because "moustache" sounds like "must ask")

Ideas And Feature Requests For Hellraid Developers.

I saw on the Hellraid forum on Steam this conversation regarding whether the player could maximize the skill tree. Question: Will you be able to max out the skill trees or will you be limited in your choices? Answer: That is something we are still debating, so no solid answer just yet. ("questions for Hellraid developers", page 15) Please don't allow each character to achieve absolutely all points into each skill. This would mean all max level characters will be absolutely identical in all skills. So when you team up with someone else, you have identical skills. Each character is equally a master magician, master archer and master fighter. Sounds a bit boring to me. I think one reason why you might consider allowing people to achieve all skills is so a player can try all skills without having to start a new character. That can be a good thing, but maybe we could allow characters to get back all (or half) of their skill points through some means and then spend them again. That is, maybe a character has spent all their skills in melee and ranged combat, but now they want to re-spend their points into melee and magic. How could a player get to re-spend their points? You could have a special rare item you find that can reset your points (you could make it a glowing blue crystal or something). Players would have to search for it. Some games let you just spend money to respend your points, this is a inexpensive and easy way, maybe too easy. Some games allow skill resets for free (like Diablo 3) and some games make it too hard (like Path of Exile). It'll be interesting to see if you guys allow skill resets at all. Have a great day.

    Rural Scene Concept Art

Here is a rural scene concept art shared by the Hellraid Facebook page on July 22. I think this is great. A great change from cliches and repetitions of dungeon after dungeon. I saw a Youtube video of the first presentation of Hellraid (almost a year ago), and it was mostly in an outdoor area. I know the concept art will not necessarily be identical to the actual game areas, but can we expect something like this rural area in the game? I think these outdoor areas are a breath of fresh air to more narrow corridors. The windmill is a real nice touch. It's adds life to an area instead of the game just having landscape and enemies. Send my compliments to the artist please.
  21. In Dying Light, when the player searches a defeated enemy for items or money, it shows the player's hands searching and it takes about half a second. (video linked below) This adds a new level of realism. This is in contrast to Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide where the search occurs without any animation. In Dead Island, picking up money or items from bodies happened pretty quickly, and in Riptide it happened even quicker! After playing Riptide, I found it a little slow to go back to Dead Island's pace of picking up items. Checking bodies so quickly in Riptide felt good. The difference between the speed of Riptide and Dying Light comes down to a difference between a degree of realism (Dying Light shows it takes a moment to check a body) versus convenience (the instant grab of Riptide). I would bet the designers of Dying Light had in mind that, realistically, when you are being chased by zombies you don't always have a moment to check a zombie's pockets! Especially at night! In Riptide, I could search bodies will avoiding other zombies trying to attack me. I'm not saying one style is better than the other, I'm just noticing the change. In a different game the player said certain things when he is searching the bodies. This game is Red Dead Redemption:Undead Nightmare (the story of the cowboy John Marston versus zombies). When he searched the bodies he had at least 5 different things he could say, and this made the time spent searching 20 zombies after a battle more entertaining. I remember a few of his lines roughly. He'd say "Sorry ma'am, but you aren't gonna need these any more" or "If you'd acted like a lady, I would have treated you like one" and "I think I killed you the first time". They were all a little funny. I couldn't find a video that could quickly showcase the lines. Here is an example of it of the animated body search: (check the video at 2:43)

Hellraid Gameplay Demo At Gamescom 2014

Here is the video for the Hellraid Demo at Gamescom (If this is posted on this forum somewhere already, feel free to delete this thread). I thought this would be posted already, but I don't see it posted. It's about 10 minutes, new gameplay. Exciting gameplay! You can also see some of the skill screen and Marcin talks about some of the features. Great environments, fun enemies, and great combat. This is the best video I've seen about Hellraid. This game is so good.

Hellraid Gameplay Demo At Gamescom 2014

Also, here is an additional interview with Marcin Kruczkiewicz, producer of Hellraid (and I think a lead designer). This interview is done by Zoomin.TV Games. He mentions that during early access they will be looking for feedback on weapon durability (at 6:35 in the video)! He laughs, I believe, because he knows this is a contested issue between players.

    The Official Techland Gamescom Thread

That was a great video about Hellraid, and that final battle with the Hircus was intense.
